Fluid dexterity, combined with a knack for improvised compositions, sets these DJs apart. Turntablism looked to isolate the scratching, juggling, and sound manipulation aspects of hip hop DJing into its own genre and art form. Since it began, Turntablism has become less about mixing songs and more about creating new songs out of snippets, using the turntable as more of a musical instrument.

Fast forward to the present day, and modern turntablists have really upped their game with the explosion of technology and DJ equipment now allow unlimited song selection.

These DJs can also now play with cue points to quickly reference a piece of a song or create new compositions. Customised scratch and juggle phrasing can also be planned and made ahead of time and uploaded as digital files. Cue point buttons and DJ-created files allow for unique samples and sounds to be quickly accessed for tricks and showcases, which wouldn’t be possible to perform on vinyl only.

So, although turntablism and scratch DJing can be more of a pastime, many DJs still practice the craft with a more modern approach, even performing their music live, including live instruments and other musicians preforming on sequencers or synthesizers and the like.

Hire our “Club Caravan” outdoor mobile stage and DJ booth for your event.

This outdoor mobile stage is built into an iconic caravan and is ideal for sites where space is limited. Its super-fast to set up and very cost effective, saving you time and money while creating an immersive and high-quality performance experience.

The “Club Caravan” is fully powered and has a PA system which will cover up to 600 people.

There is a full lighting system installed, which brings focus and drama to a performance and outdoor space.

Options include a fully kitted DJ set-up, band sound desk, and even a sound engineer.

Full public liability insurance, method statement, and risk assessment – all set to go!
